Luca was a faithful road trip companion, and had many activist dog adventures
We walked 200 kms from Lancelin in WA, the site of US bombing... to my home town of fremantle...well, to be honest, Luca did... I had to take a day and a half off to go to a job interview and rejoin. She stayed with the walkers.
3 "adults'', 1 child, 1 dog, 1 van, 3000 kilometres drive to the first climate camp in 2008. We stopped at bogan shire, Because, well, just obviously. Luca also chose the end of a long days drive after we had gotten lost to roll in poo. This may have been her finest hour.
Post my first civil disobedience arrest for climate change in 2008. My support crew went to pick Luca up so I had cuddles to greet me on release from the cop shop. (as this is one of the more dorky photos in existence I am hoping it doesn't end up on a bolt article one day)
Luca used to go to work in a community legal centre with Erin. She even had emergency call outs when she was living with me, if people in the office were having a particularly hard day, she would go out on loan.
El Capitano bent the rules to let Luca live on board for quite a few months while we were docked.
Luca got adopted by the whole ship. One of her best mates was Arne who named his dog Luca after her. I love that there is a dog called Luca in Germany keeping her spirit alive.
When she nearly died from a paralysis tick while I was away the vet got very confused and asked me who she belonged to: 5 or 6 different crew had been ringing up to check how she was going.
En route to another climate camp in 2010
Its hard work getting up at 2am to set up a blockade at a coal mine. Luca guards the gates.
Rudd had done some serious lurch to the right, its all so bad who even remembers what. "I am a nicer person than Kevin Rudd" was pretty popular though, she got papped big time.
May Day. Serious face. Don't mess with the workers, bitches.
In a brilliant plan Luca worked out that she would have to be able to come on the road trip from melbourne to broome if she occupied the boot. Luckily I was fooled.
we found this anti nuke sticker on a bin at a random service station in the NT. I was impressed, Luca less so.
I always felt slightly safer camping by myself with Luca...who knows why...a tough guard dog was not her calling. this particular camp site she bolted for the river with me running after her, images of just a few pieces of fluffy tail sticking out of a crocodiles mouth.
