Ashes

Feb 11, 2015

They'd called me in the middle of a hectic few days of workshops I was running in Queensland. It was my first big piece of work since it all, and it was really hard. Beautiful and lovely hippies corralling hectic and sweet dogs. Respite came in short walks and swims. Floating and listening to the chatter above in the couple of inhabited rooms where I was staying.

The vet receptionist put on their quiet voice. The compassionate one where you talk about death. Its very nice and it makes me slightly want to break things.

I arrive several days later to pick up the bones of my best friend tastefully presented in the muted pastel tones of death and generic compassion. $500. But that included the killing, and the velvet trim.
