Goodbye party

I decide to have a goodbye party. I’m not sure it is really for me… but for some of those people Luca has adopted into her life. She has so many friends. I wasn't sure if I could manage it. But I'm glad I did. It was partly for me, but more for others. Luca has never just belonged to me. Her extended family stretches across the country, in fact, across the seas.
She graciously does the rounds… she says hello to everyone, submits to pats. She could be in the goddamned royal family. But she has more class.
Though she does like to roll in poo.
People wrote messages talking about 'my luca' ... and she was theirs.
I’m doing ok with the strange weirdness of it all until Kirsten and her beautiful boys arrive. They feed her schmackos with grave concern and Luca lets them almost hug her. In all their gentleness I am undone. Quiet tears are rolling down cheeks. So serious and crestfallen they patted her oh so gently, a little family puddle... they had looked after her for two weeks whilst I had a sanity break. Two weeks, and such love and heart ache.
As the weather cools and we head off, beatiful Jas quietly presses into my hands some polaroids she has been taking. Her gift to me. I keep them for opening later.
